Homecoming 2019 a Victorious One for Menasha
Menasha students, staff and alumni had an exciting week as they showed their Bluejay pride during homecoming 2019! The big football game was Friday, October 11, but that wasn’t the only homecoming fun take place. All ages joined in to honor this wonderful tradition in the Menasha community.
A full week of Bluejay Spirit
Homecoming week kicked off with a wacky spirit day. Each grade dressed as a generation, ranging from freshmen as babies and seniors as senior citizens. Staff got to be teens for the day. Other spirit days for the week included tacky tourist day, decades day and blue and white day.
On Wednesday, Mensha’s girls battled it out in the annual powder puff football game. The seniors came out on top this time around!
Friday’s pep rally got everyone hyped for the game. It featured a performance from the cheer squad and fun activities pitting the grades against each other in friendly competition. As part of the spirit day schedule, each grade wore a different color to show their status: freshmen wore green, sophomores wore red, juniors wore white and seniors wore black.
Despite the cold weather, plenty of Menasha community members lined the streets to enjoy the homecoming parade. The parade began in the high school parking lot and wound through town, ending at Nathan Calder Stadium. Students from kindergarten through high school were well represented on the floats. The football players walked along, handing out footballs to future Bluejays.
Senior girls of the class of 2020 let everyone know who they were with pink outfits that coordinated well with their Blujay blue and white. Many students and athletes wore pink Menasha football gear to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
The week ended with a homecoming dance for high school students on Saturday.
Bluejays continue a winning season
On Friday night, the Bluejays faced the Shawano Community Hawks. At halftime, the Bluejays were up 27-0, and they ended up on top 34-19. Senior Cole Popp scored three of Menasha’s touchdowns.
This notched yet another victory in a winning season for the Bluejays. Menasha is once again in the playoffs for the 11th season in a row!
Homecoming is a great time for finding old friends and connecting with fellow Menasha alumni. If you were able to join us, we are so glad you could help make homecoming 2019 special. Whether you’re near or far, it’s always a good time to show your Bluejay pride!
